Another milestone achieved by Jack with his usual flair and creativity. He lost his first tooth this week. Things actually got going about a week ago at the dinner table. Jack and Sam were leading a discussion about what happens to your body when you die. After reviewing the grim details of loss of skin, brain, heart etc., their attention turned to any young boy's fascination - BONES. After some discussion of bones and teeth (they wanted to know if my glasses would go with my bones), I offered to check Jack's teeth. Fortuitously, the exam revealed a loose tooth. The loose tooth discover lead into a review of past tooth adventures: Uncle Chuck tying his tooth to a turtle, Nadine (at the encouragement of her Dad) tying hers to a door and having the door slammed (that one even had the boys grimacing). And of course, Sam related that most of his teeth were loose.
On Thursday morning, the nurse from Jack's school called to say that he had lost his tooth! Jack later related that a fair Young maiden had convinced him to bite the cord on his backpack while she yanked it away (what we'll do for our ladies!).
That night Jack surmised that if the Tooth Fairy left him a video game(clearly showing early signs of mastery of the art of negotiation), he would wake up and play with it all night. Well with those expectations on the table, 50 cents no longer seemed adequate exchange for a first tooth. The final tally ended up south of $5, but closer to the cost of a gallon of gas than 50 cents. Needless to say the look on Jack's face the next morning when he discovered the booty was priceless! Sam suggested that he even felt some shaking of his pillow during the night - perhaps the tfgps was a little off (tooth fairly global position satellite)?
