Selected Scenes from a Winter Sunday

• 12:04 a.m. Jack strolls to the bathroom and proudly calls out "Dad I'm going to the bathroom", missing the point that the value in going by yourself is lost when you wake everyone up to tell them.
• 12:05 a.m. Jack returns to his room, stopping to say "good night Dad". How does he know if Dad is awake?
• 5:45 a.m. Jack & Sam appear at Dad's side of the bed (Nadine slumbers safely under 6 pillows) and announce "Good morning! Is it morning time? Can we go watch cartoons?"
• 5:48 a.m. Cartoon programming hasn't started yet, boys forced to watch animal rescue show while Dad surfs the net.
• 5:52 a.m. Animal show is boring, first skirmish breaks out as Jack puts feet on Sam.
• 6:15 a.m. Sam says "Dad how come sometimes my Pajamas get stuck between my bum? Dad feels nostalgic as son has described first wedgie.
• 6:40 a.m. Sam celebrates "special breaktist" by flinging pieces of omelet across the table.
• 9:00 a.m. Jack asks for a cookie for the first time today.
• 9:20 a.m. Nadine pulls car over violently for the 2nd time on the way to Gramma & Bumpa's and delivers "It's not too late to turn around" speech when Sam screams about something. Jack raises objection that he isn't doing anything wrong.
• 10:50 a.m. Dad helps Jack with school project and brings dishonor to the family by advising Jack to spell macaroni with 2 "c's". Large poster for class presentation lists Jack's favorite food as maccaroni.
• 11:15 a.m. Sam repeatedly thrusts his entire face into a snow bank to lick the snow.
• 11:15 a.m. Jack enjoys snowshoeing and skiing around Gramma's backyard.
• 11:18 a.m. Morgan loses "boop" (boot) while marching around in 3 feet of snow.
• 4:55 p.m. 90 minutes after large snack, Jack is "starving". Crisis averted with a few celery sticks and peanut butter.
• 4:57 p.m. Jack says his belly is "killing him".
• 4:58 p.m. Jack asks if he can have a cookie.
• 4:59 p.m. Jack says his belly doesn't feel good and he better lay down.
• 5:00 p.m. Jack is starving and asks when dinner will be served?
• 5:30 p.m. At GG's house, Jack opens the refrigerator and asks for a yogurt, some candy and a cookie.
• 6:20 p.m. 5 minutes after dinner, Sam wants to know what he can eat because he is starving.
• 6:40 p.m. Morgan chokes on candy, but is fine.
• 7:15 p.m. Jack goes nuts for 10 minutes before bedtime.
• 7:25 p.m. Order is restored and boys fall quickly to sleep after bedtime mystery story.
