Big Brother

Sam and Jack recently described one of the most touching scenes a Dad could enjoy. Sam's Pre-K class (ask Sam to sing the class song sometime, or Pledge of allegiance!) made Halloween masks, and as part of the festivities peformed a mask parade through several classrooms in the school. In particular, Sam's class marched with masks on through the first grade class rooms. According to Jack, when Sam entered his big brother's classroom he threw off his mask and exclaimed "Hi Jack" - how proud he must have been to show off his work to his big brother. I can imagine the infectious smile on Sam's face as he realized he was walking into Jack's class, and unable to contain himself, shouting out in pure joy "Hi Jack" as if to say to his class of peers "I have a big brother in first grade!". Kudos to Jack for not squelching Sam's joy - he returned a sheepish "Hi Sam". Although he confided "I told him 'Sam, put your mask on, it's a mask parade not time to say hi to your brother'" That's my little rule follower. At least there was no harm to Sam. Nothing makes a Dad prouder than those moments.
