This past Sunday we spent a delightful Summer day playing outside, visiting our favorite beach (Long Sands, York, Maine) and capped it off with a magnificent visit to GG's. After the beach, we stopped and picked up Subs and chips and later, blizzards from DQ. We arrived at GG's around 6:30 p.m. and spread out around her living room for dinner.
Morgan sat proudly in a small wooden chair that fit her perfectly, though it was crafted for her great, great grandparents generations earlier.
Sam pulled up to the coffee table and dined atop some literary magazines, where purple geodes provided tantalizing textures for his restless fingers.
Jack sat in up in a chair and got right to work on his sandwich, all the while eyeing the automatic lift chair that GG was sitting in. He new with a little patience GG would invite him to take a turn riding in her chair.
After catching each other up on the latest news - the boys swimming, Morgan's talking, Nadine's work, my political leanings, GG's visitors, Gramma and Bumpa's trip etc. - we dove into the icy blizzards. GG, who "hadn't had one in 35 years" delighted in a Reece's peeces blizzard. Everyone shared combinations of chocolate candies, peanut butter, caramel and sweet vanilla ice cream. "Gooood icecream" cooed Morgan.
GG regaled Jack with stories of her life - Tyler, Gordon, John, Gramma/Barbara and traveling across the country. Jack, of course asked lots of questions. Morgan played with the firetruck ladder and called for the "turtle, turtle, worms? worms?". Sam touched everything he could get his hands on, as fast as he could, while Jack studied items, one at a time, intently.
Before we left, GG lent the boys a book (a gift from Peggy 22 years earlier) about a young boy who helps an elderly lady get her memory back. (Earlier Jack had asked "How old is GG?" the answer - 95. "Wow! said Jack "when she gets to be 100 her bones are really gong to ache")
We all departed feeling richer and fully satisfied - That is how a Summer day should be.
